The Charter School of Wilmington tennis program concluded another remarkable season at the DIAA Individual State Championships, highlighted by the boys team capturing its second consecutive state title and the girls team earning a tie for third place in one of the most competitive fields in Delaware.
The girls team entered the postseason after compiling an impressive 8-3 regular season record against what was widely considered the toughest schedule in the state. Facing top programs throughout the year, including eventual state champion Archmere and runner-up Tower Hill, the Force proved they belonged among Delaware's elite.
At the state tournament, the girls delivered outstanding performances across the board, finishing tied for third place with 15 points, just one point behind second-place Tower Hill. Archmere claimed the team title with a perfect 30-point performance.
Individual highlights included:
Emma Li (10th grade) – Third Round
Anika Mehla – Semifinalist
Emma Li (11th grade) – Finalist
Riley and Taeyeon – Semifinalists
Annika and Elisabeth – Semifinalists
With no seniors in the lineup, the future remains exceptionally bright for the Force girls program.
The boys team entered the season carrying the expectations of defending a state championship and responded with an outstanding 11-1 regular season record. Despite featuring one of the youngest lineups in program history, including four freshmen and one eighth grader, the Force consistently rose to the challenge.
That growth culminated in a dominant state tournament performance. Every CSW player advanced to at least the semifinal round, and no Force competitor dropped a set before the semifinals. Ryan He delivered one of the most dominant tournament runs in recent memory, losing only two games throughout the entire event.
After weather delays forced competition to move to DuPont Country Club, CSW's singles players secured critical victories to clinch the championship. The Force finished with 24 points, defeating Tower Hill's 20 points to capture back-to-back state titles.
Tournament standouts included:
Ryan He – State Champion
Renzo Gopez – State Champion
Johannes Chow – State Champion
Hugh and Yuvaan – Semifinalists
Ankush and Sammy – Semifinalists
Like the girls team, the boys roster featured no seniors, positioning the program for continued success in the years ahead.
The accomplishments of both teams were made possible through the dedication of volunteer assistant coaches Coach Guan and Coach CJ, as well as the support of CSW administrators, families, and the broader school community.
With a state championship, numerous individual finalists and semifinalists, and an entire roster expected to return next season, the future of CSW tennis has never looked brighter.
