Students from The Charter School of Wilmington had an outstanding showing at this year’s Youth In Government Conference, held at Legislative Hall and Kent County Court House. Across the judicial and legislative branches, Charter students earned top honors, leadership roles, and statewide recognition.
In the judicial branch, Sophia DiGenova was named Chief Justice, joined by Associate Justices Luke Hu and Spencer Maynard. The Judicial Showcase featured top competitors, with Delaney Christel and Johannes Chow earning the conference title. Additional honors included Emma Li as Top Attorney and Delaney Christel as Top Justice, while multiple students were recognized for outstanding briefs and first-year performance.
On the legislative side, Michael DiGenova was elected President of the Senate and Jovanna Parrish was named House Speaker. Charter students also earned recognition for outstanding lobbying, press work, and legislation, with several students successfully having their bills signed by the Governor.
Beyond the conference, Charter students were selected for prestigious national opportunities. Michael DiGenova was elected Youth Governor for 2027, while Spencer Maynard was named Chief Justice Elect. Several students also earned spots at the Conference on National Affairs and National Judicial Conference.
These accomplishments highlight the strength of Charter’s Youth In Government program and the dedication of its students to leadership, civic engagement, and excellence.
