This February, the Charter School of Wilmington competed in the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton Science Olympiad invitationals at their respective Ivy League campuses.
These tournaments rank among the most prestigious Science Olympiad events in the country, drawing top-ranked teams from states like Texas, Florida, and Massachusetts. Each competition, designed specifically for high schoolers, hosts more than 20 advanced science and engineering challenges across a diverse array of disciplines–from forensics and water quality to circuitry and architecture.
When asked about his SciOly experience, team captain Swaroop Sahoo noted that “it’s really expanded my horizons as a future engineer–I especially love how competing in build events lets me try my hand at real-world design challenges with my friends.”
Charter placed competitively at both tournaments, earning multiple top ten finishes and medals in events such as Designer Genes, Disease Detectives, and Water Quality. As the state competition approaches in March, the team aims to continue with a strong performance against other Delaware teams–extending their dominant 26-year win streak would earn them an invitation to the Science Olympiad national competition, which will be held on the University of Southern California campus in May.
