CSW senior Brandon Williams delivered a standout performance on Saturday, capturing first place in the Boys 5K and earning the title of 2025 State Champion. Williams crossed the finish line in 16:03, edging his closest competitor by three seconds in a hard-fought final stretch. The victory marks a defining moment in his high school running career and a testament to his growth and commitment over the past four years.
In the closing moments of the race, Williams said his motivation was clear. “This is what I have trained for the whole season. This was my last race and there was nothing to hold back for, so I wanted to give it my all,” he shared. The decisive moment came as the runners crested the course’s final hill. “Once I got to the top of the hill, I knew I could win at that point because I knew I could out-sprint him.”
Williams credited his preparation throughout the season as a key factor in his success. Early on, he focused heavily on building mileage and endurance. As the season progressed, he shifted into speed work to sharpen his closing ability—an element that proved crucial in the championship race. The balance of endurance and speed training allowed him to peak when it mattered most.
Support from those around him also played an important role. Williams highlighted the impact of Coach Schuder, saying, “I would like to thank Coach Schuder for always being there for me and always driving me to meets in New York for indoor track. He has pushed me to be better every season.”
With the cross-country season now behind him, Williams is already looking ahead to indoor track. His goals include breaking the school records in both the 800 and 1600 meters while also pursuing additional state titles this winter.
To the next generation of CSW runners, Williams shared a message that reflects the mindset that carried him to the top: “Anything can be achieved through hard work and dedication.”
