Charter School of Wilmington’s own Margit Olson was recently recognized as one of the Philadelphia Eagles’ All-Pro Teachers — one of only ten educators selected from hundreds of nominations this season. Olson was nominated by her colleague, Heather Watt, who credited her dedication and teamwork in keeping classes running smoothly while Watt was on leave last year.
Olson, along with her wife and son, enjoyed a special day at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, complete with VIP parking, tailgating in the K Lot, and watching the game from complimentary seats.
Beyond the classroom, Olson is deeply committed to community service—especially addressing food insecurity. She and her son regularly volunteer with initiatives like Lasagna Love, where they prepare meals for neighbors in need, and the South Philly Community Fridge, shopping and donating food to help others. Olson’s belief is simple yet powerful: “Food is a right, not a privilege.”
Even while after recently going on medical leave after being diagnosed with ALS in April 2025, Olson continues to give back. She’s been in touch with South Philadelphia High School about volunteering to tutor students in science, staying connected to the work she loves most.
At the heart of Olson’s teaching philosophy is relationship building. Former students often tell her, “You always believed in me,” a reflection of her nurturing approach. As Olson says, “I’ll take the nicest kid over the smartest kid any day.” Her compassion, curiosity, and belief in the power of kindness continue to inspire those around her—both in the classroom and beyond.
