Ability Grouping:

Our academic programs are structured so each student is placed in a level that is challenging, but not overwhelming. To accommodate a range of students, The Charter School of Wilmington (CSW), provides three levels of ability groupings known as phases. Each student’s phase is initially determined through a required placement assessment process. Three college preparatory phases (levels 3, 4, and 5) exist prior to the AP level of courses, with Phase 5 designated as Honors.

Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment

Advanced Placement:

Advanced Placement (AP) courses permit students to obtain college credits while in high school. At the conclusion of the course, students take an AP exam, which is graded from 1 to 5. Many colleges and universities will award credits towards degrees for scores of 3 or higher.

AP courses are offered in Precalculus, Calculus (AB & BC), Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, and Mechanics, AP Physics 1, Environmental Science, Computer Science A, English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition, Seminar, Latin, Spanish Language and Culture, French Language and Culture, Psychology, U.S. History, Art History, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Comparative Government and Politics. European History and Studio Art is offered through Cab Calloway School of the Arts. CSW also offers post-AP offerings: Calculus 3, Anatomy and Physiology (Dual enrollment with Delaware Technical Community College), and Horn Entrepreneurship Institute’s EntreX Lab (Dual enrollment with University of Delaware).

Grade Point Average:

Three phases exist prior to the AP level of courses (levels 3, 4, and 5) with Phase 5 being designated as Honors. Grade point average is determined on a 4.0 scale with slight weight given to higher phases.
