The Charter School of Wilmington's Personal Economics couse is supported by and works in coordination with the University of Delaware's Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship(CEEE). This partnership enables us to offer the students an opportunity to compete for a $1000 scholarship to the school of his/her choice. Course Description:
            This class is designed to provide students with learning experiences that encourage smart economic decision making skills in personal finance.  Students will learn how to manage their personal resources by making informed choices in the marketplace, develop a sense of social responsibility, and begin to plan for the future. In order to develop these skills major emphasis will be placed on vocabulary development as well as “real life” case studies.  The goal of this class is to provide each student with the knowledge and practical skills to participate in this world as a responsible consumer.

Grading Policy:
            Grades are based on a weighted system.  Classwork and homework are worth 25%, notebook checks are 15%, quizzes/projects are 25%, and tests are 35%.  All classwork and homework is expected to be turned in on time.  Full credit will be given if the work is complete and turned in on time.  Late work will be accepted ONE DAY late for ½ credit. No late work will be accepted after one day has passed.  If  a student is absent, he/she is responsible for getting all assignments missed from the teacher on the day of return.  The student will have as many days as he/she was absent to get the work turned in.  Notebooks will be checked twice a marking period.  Tests are announced at least one week in advance. The minimum passing grade for this class is 70%.

  6. Savings and Investing – Stock Market, Mutual Funds, Retirement Plans, Real Estate
  7. Credit – Obtaining, Maintaining, Avoiding Problems
  8. Buying/Leasing a Car – Insurance *
  9. Home Buying or Leasing – Insurance *
