Retired Lexicon
Here's a list of terms used by teams in the past::
- Beryl's Mom: (after Beryl Schragger '04) Impolite joke started by Jason Chu ('04), given as an answer when the team had no clue. Now associated with Gropius because once when Gropius was the answer and a team answered "Beryl's Mom" the moderator said "Well, maybe". By the way, we like Mrs. Schragger; she helped us serve lunch at tournaments and invited the team to Beryl's graduation party.
- Sasquatch A nickname for Byron Pierce ('08) after an infamous neg five on a tossup. The
correct answer was The Magic Flute, but Byron answered "Sasquatch"
- SBP (coined by Terry Wu '07) "Spontaneous Butt Pull", or when you come up with an answer out of nowhere.
- (To do a) Alan Threefoot: (after Alan Threefoot '05) (a) To not show up
for the bus the morning of a tournament. To compound the error, to not turn in your
permission slip so we don't know what number to call to see if you are on the way. (b) During
a bonus part to say "The answer starts with" some letter. (c) To horribly whiff
on a tossup. For example, buzzing in with "Albert Einstein" when the answer is
"green".
