Blue Hen


Information for March 2010


Dear Academic Team Coordinator:

The University of Delaware Academic Competition Club is pleased to announce the twelfth annual Blue Hen, to be held on Saturday, March 20st, 2010. The tournament will use NAQT's question set 94.

The precise format of the tournament will be determined after the field size is known. In 2009 teams played five preliminary rounds and three playoff rounds. The winners of the top four playoff brackets advanced to a semi-final.

Schedule:

    8:15-9:00 Registration and setup (Purnell Auditorium)
    9:00-9:30 Welcome, Announcements, Rules Discussion
    9:30-10:00 Round 1 (various Purnell rooms)
    10:00-10:30 Round 2
    10:30-11:00 Round 3
    11:30-12:00 Round 4
    12:00-12:30 Round 5
    12:30-1:30 Lunch
    1:40 Announcement of second brackets (Purnell Auditorium)
    2:00-2:30 Round 6 (various Purnell rooms)
    2:30-3:00 Round 7
    3:00-3:30 Round 8
    3:30-4:00 "Trash" Round (except for any ties among top 16)
    4:15 Announcement of semi-finalists and individual awards (Purnell Auditorium)
    4:30-5:30 Semi-Final and Final Rounds (top 4 only)

Fees:

    First Team: $65
    Second Team: $60
    Subsequent Teams: $55
    Buzzer System -$10/ each
    Experienced Moderator: -$10/ each

Checks should be written out to Academic Competition Club (U of DE). Payment may be made the morning of the event, or mailed to Academic Competition Club, c/o Student Activities Office, 218 Trabant University Center, Newark, DE 19716.

During the lunch break, teams may go to the food court at the nearby Trabant Student Center, or other Newark establishments.

To register, send an email to charterquiz@gmail.com listing the school name, the number of teams, and buzzers you will be bringing. An advance Invoice is available upon request.

In order to help us plan for the event, please register as early as possible. We will need promises of additional readers to go beyond 30 teams. We reserve the right to deny registration submitted after Monday, March 15th.
