Ability Groupings: Our academic programs are structured so each student is placed in a level that will challenge one without being overwhelmed. To accommodate the range of abilities at The Charter School of Wilmington, we provide three levels of ability groupings which we call phases. Each student’s phase is initially determined through placement testing required for acceptance and entrance into Charter.
| Phase 3 |
|
College prep; average to above average ability - 75th to 84th percentile nationally |
| Phase 4 |
|
College prep; above average ability - 85th to 92rd percentile nationally |
| Phase 5 |
|
College prep; highest ability - HONORS 93rd to 99th percentile nationally |
Grade Point Average: Three phases exist prior to the AP level of courses (levels 3, 4, and 5) with Phase 5 being designated as Honors. Grade point average is determined on a 4.0 scale with slight weight given to higher phases. Phase 4 receives .1 weight, phase 5 receives .2 weight and AP classes receive a .3 weight. All graded classes are counted in the weighted GPA. Unweighted GPA’s are available upon request.
Class Rank: Because Charter students are selected in a competitive admissions process that evaluates aptitude, achievement, and interest in the study of mathematics, science, and technology, class rank is not published except for scholarship requirements. Percentile ranking is available upon request.
